Many hotels among the Caesars and MGM portfolio are closing hotel operations mid-week through the end of the year.

December is always the slowest month in Las Vegas as tourism declines. The main source of mid-week income for the city, especially in the winters, is various conventions that bring many people and businesses to town. But during a time where Covid is affecting every aspect of life, and conventions are non-existent, the hotels just don’t have the numbers during the week to support every hotels operations.

Mid-Week Closures, and what you need to know

To be clear, just because the hotel portions of these resorts are going dark Monday through Thursday doesn’t mean the entire properties are closed. The casinos, restaurants, and amenities will remain open.

The newest to the list of mid-week closures is The Mirage and Mandalay Bay effective November 30th 2020. MGM said they do not expect this to last past December, but will need to reevaluated based on demand at the end of the year.

Despite the slow down in tourism, The Rio is expected to re-open on December 22nd 2020. The hotel has been shut down since the pandemic started in March. After the 1st of the year they expect to be running the hotel on the weekends only.
